New world hooked squid
Rare ‘deep-sea hooked squid’ captured on video
Scientists have captured rare footage of a deep-sea hooked squid at a depth of more than a kilometer underwater. The research team made this memorable observation while deploying free-fall baited cameras north of the Samoan Passage.
Taningia danae: Rare encounter with a deep-sea hooked squid
The deep-sea hooked squid, scientific name Taningia danae, is a fascinating cephalopod that inhabits the deep waters of the world’s oceans.
This species belongs to the family Octopoteuthidae and is one of the largest known deep-sea squid.
Despite its impressive size, which can reach up to 1.7 meters in length, very brief is known about its habit and ecology due to the challenges of observing them in their natural habitat.
Bioluminescent wonder
One of the most striking features of Taningia danae is the presence of two large photophores on the tips of its arms. These photophores are bioluminescent organs that produce bright flashes of light, believed to be used for communication, attracting prey, and startling potential predators.
The photophores of Taningia danae are the largest known in the innate world, making t
They say your game isn't great unless it has a fishing mini-game. New World joins the pantheon with its Fish Reagents quest. This is the first time that you will be able to find Hooked Squid.
After receiving the quest from Park Jennet in Brightwood you will be prompted to accumulate Squid Ink and Catfish Whisper and bring them to Master Fisher Argarwhal in Weaver's Fen. These materials can be obtained by catching Hooked Squid and Barbed Catfish. It is worth noting that this is the 7th quest in the Fishing With Shields quest arc.

Easily enough, you can fish for the Squid and Catfish at the lake directly behind Park. You'll need a rod, which you can either craft or buy. The better quality of the rod, the higher chance you have at catching fish. While you have a plethora of choices on what bait to use, Firefly bait or Woodlouse should do you well.
Additionally, you can acquire Hooked Squid from any of the lakes in Greyvale if you find yourself questing elsewhere and want to kill two birds with one stone. With a lake directly behind Park, though, it might serve you to gather your rod and bait

I had the pleasure of taking out Taiki Natsume and Yudai Fujita from Yamashita in Japan on my local waters of Port Phillip Bay. For those who aren’t familiar with Yamashita, they are part of the Yamaria Corporation. Not only do they make some of the world’s best squid jigs but their hard-bodies, under the Maria brand, are responsible for countless captures of everything from barra and bream through to kings and tuna all over our great land.
The guys were here promoting the new 490 Glow jigs (reviewed in issue 49) and testing some unused products yet to hit our shores. We had great achievement, with three of us using the jigs in six metres, where we had no trouble catching many small to medium squid in quick succession. We were catching so many I suggested we retrieve the boat and drive down to Sorrento to head out to The Rip to try for a few larger models. The guys had politely hinted they wanted to get into some deeper water and bigger squid and I was more than content to oblige.
Going deep
After we made our way out we started fishing in about 7-10 metres. We all tied on 490 Glow jigs in 3.5 and it wasn’t long be

LINE AND LEADER
LINE
Whether you’re fishing off the beach, off the wharf or from the boat, casting is a core technique for squid fishing. You need a line that will deliver the distance you need to hit your target.
Hyperglide® 13x braid is a round, super fine braid that is specifically designed to deliver a longer and smoother cast.
Constructed from 12 Japanese PE fibres woven around a strong central core, creating a very smooth line that retains its roundness.
This means the braid will glide silently and effortlessly through your guides, improving your distance and accuracy (compared to a standard braid which typically has a flat structure).
It also means less drag as it sinks down through the water column giving improved lure presentation and a higher level of sensitivity.
The ‘Tekapo Blue’ colour makes it less visible in water, perfect for easily spooked squid.
We recommend using 10lb (PE 0.6) to 12lb (PE 0.8) Hyperglide® 13x Braid when targeting squid.
LEADER
Squid spook easily, so fluorocarbon leader is the ideal choice when fishing in clear water. This is because fluorocarbon has the same light refracting properties as water, so in clean water it is ne
Greetings, Adventurers!
Summer is fishing season in Aeternum. You can fish at any body of water, but what about your fishing pole, location, and bait? Learn the basics to catch bigger, rarer fish and quickly increase your fishing skill level. Fishing XP will be doubled each weekend throughout the Summer Medleyfaire Event.
Find a Fishing Pole
Fishing poles are tools used to catch fish. You can get one through crafting, trading posts, drops, and quest rewards. Like all tools, higher tier fishing poles contain improved stats. For fishing poles that means better cast distance (increases from 12M on Tier I to 20M on Tier V), tension recovery (increases from 27.5 tension recovered per second for Tier I to 37.5 for Tier V), and odds of catching rare fish (125% higher fish rarity chance with Tier V).
Find the Leading Fishing Hotspot
Fishing Hotspots are circular areas with ripples and jumping fish. Each one is designated as broad (1 star), scarce (2 stars), or secret (3 stars). Higher rarities have less fish and longer respawn times, but far greater chances for you to walk away with rare and legendary catches. Fish vary by region (more on that below).
Hotspots either appear on your map o
