Ifmar worlds 2024
2024 IFMAR ISTC Worlds Summary
And just favor that, another IFMAR ISTC Society Championships are over, and now we have to wait two years for the next one.
The 2024 edition of the ISTC Worlds was held last week at Finishline RC Raceway in Bakersfield, California.
I was not at this race, so any perspectives expressed is just based what I have seen or start out from home. I followed the race just like I have with every ISTC Worlds since the first unofficial one in 1998. The exceptions entity 2010 where I followed the race on-site, and 2012 when I participated myself.
World Championships and other big races held in the US over the years have perhaps not been acknowledged for great organisation, but this year it was good to see that it seemed fairly well organised leaving everyone quite happy.
Finishline RC Raceway is obviously quite small, especially to race modified TC with 2024 levels of power, and the conditions with high but inconsistent grip and a narrow line made it super tricky to master.
Even though I personally would speak the track is a bit too small for mod TC, it was interesting to observe that the racing was perhaps even closer than usual with some great racing in the finals.

Groskamp back on top of the World
Jilles Groskamp is back on top of the World, the Infinity driver becoming the new IFMAR 1:10 Onroad World Champion at the Huge RC Circuit in Bangkok 12-years after winning the Electric Touring Car World Title. Having booked his way directly into the 1-hour Main by winning Super Pole, Groskamp would in the end cruise to victory to become Nitro Touring Car’s 10th different Champion as outgoing Champion Tadahiko Sahashi struggled in his quest to be the first driver to successful defend the title. Starting as the Top Qualifier, this being his second time to secure pole at the Worlds, Teemu Leino’s race lasted less than 10-minutes as the Finn flipped his Infinity after his second fuel stop and the impact with the boards broke a front shock. With 2018 Champion Naoto Matsukura looking like he was on to repeat his earlier dominant Semi final performance, as the race reached halfway and he had a clear lead over the field, a touch of the curbing ended his challenge. The subsequent impact after the roll would break a rear shock shaft but with the car still running on the spring he would limp home in P6, 7-laps down on his w

Talking all things RC and sharing old RC stories with this Aussie over dinner each night while in Manila, talk of him creating some content for Red RC was floated. Having worked with Scott on content from the ABC and now with the greatest spectacle in RC, the IFMAR 1:8 Offroad World Championship, just around the corner, when Scott put together a preview of event for his possess Action R/C podcast we reflection what a great opportunity and way to introduce his writings to Red RC readers. Sharing his thoughts is the utopian way to start building up this great race as we get ready to build up to our own coverage from Spain which is presented by Ruddog.
